Help & Advice - What to do if your pet is missing?
If your pet has gone missing in the Bristol area, call:
Bristol Dogs and Cats Home on 0117 9776043 and the
RSPCA Bristol Animal Clinic on 0117 9724567 to see if your pet has been taken in.
The RSPCA will also be able to give you contact numbers for other local animal rescue organisations, including neighbouring Branches of the RSPCA.
If it is a dog you have lost, make sure you call your local council dog wardens:
Contact the Bristol City dog wardens on 0117 9222500
Contact the South Gloucestershire dog wardens on 01454 868000
The Bristol Dogs and Cats Home holds stray dogs on behalf of the Bristol City Council for a week, before they are offered for rehoming.
Here are some more tips to help you find your pet:
- Ask neighbours to check their sheds and garages, just in case your pet has managed to get locked in somewhere.
- Put up lost pet posters in your area (use a photo if you have one and include a telephone number).
- Phone local vets (an injured or ill animal may have been handed in to a veterinary surgery)
- Call the RSPCA's National Helpline on 0300 1234 999, so they can check their lost and found register.
- You can contact your local Petsearch, a free service to help re-unite lost pets with their owners (unfortunately the Bristol Petsearch has recently closed down).
- Phone the local council and Police, to see if they have any record of your pet being found.
- DON'T GIVE UP - lost or stolen pets, particularly cats, can reappear many months after disappearing.
We strongly advice that you microchip your pet so that if it is found, it can be safely reunited with you as quickly as possible.
